Opposite : any story behind band name?

Opposite was the first name suggestion everyone agreed on. One certain Biffy Clyro album also influenced a bit.

How did you guys find each other? What made you guys want to play music with each other?

Basically we knew each other before this band. Aleksi A (singer) and Anssi (guitarist) formed Opposite after playing in different bands together. Then they asked the rest of the group to join them to complete the group.

How similar are your tastes in music? Artists and influences? Other kind of music you listen to that is far off the kind of music you are playing?

Everyone likes to listen similar music that we play but also has their own tastes as well. For example Tuomas (drummer) listens a lot of metal, Aleksi M (bassist) listens old school soul, funk etc.

I love your singles, Dance and Giving Up? With Dance, its interesting to listen to all the elements at play. Who were your influences with these songs?

First of all thank you! Giving up was a basic piano ballad at first but then we started to jam it together and this Red Hot Chili Peppers/Biffy Clyro/Steven Wilson esque ballad came up.

Can you tell us more about your album, Opposite?  How did you go about creating and recording them?

We wrote the songs during 2017-2018 and recorded the album in three days at Sonic Image studio in Kouvola. Songs were written by Aleksi A, Anssi and Elmeri and arranged by everyone in the band.

How do you go about songwriting? Where do you find inspiration for the song and the lyrics?

Inspiration comes from our everyday lives and music we listen to.

Can you recall your earliest memory about music? That one thing that made you want to be an artist / musician?

We all knew music was our thing since the first music lessons in elementary school. For example, Aleksi A(singer) got the AC/DC album Fly on the Wall from his mother and instantly took an interest in the music.

Can you describe your best gig so far?

The best gig we had was in a small bar called Boothill in Helsinki, that night we had the biggest audience we've ever had before and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Also everyone was happy about their performance.

Most memorable/bizzare/interesting/funny thing that ever happened during a gig?

In one of our shows both guitarists broke a string on their guitar almost simultaneously, we had to pass the guitars to the backstage so that the band that played before us could change the strings while we tried to do our best to entertain the audience in the mean time.

Whats better: Being the studio creating music, or playing live?

Both of them have good and bad things so it's difficult to pick one over the other. In the studio you can concentrate on small things in the music and really pick the songs apart, but when you are playing live you can better enjoy the playing itself and the feeling you get from

Most weird, interesting, or funny thing that ever happened to you guys as a band?

In the spring of 2019 we played at an outdoor event in Kouvola. The weather conditions were quite challenging as the temperatures descended to around  3-4 degrees Celsius. Eventually pretty much no one showed up but we still played the gig. Icing on the cake was when it started to snow during our set.

If each one in the band were a fruit, what would they be and why?

Our collective opinion as a band is that we prefer vegetables over fruits.
